Recent Events

This past Sunday we attended Masaka Full Gospel Church. Unlike Masaka Power Church, which is run by the Danish community, this church is run by Ugandans. This week our girls from the Timothy Girls' High School were doing a special service. The worship was wonderful and the stories of what God has done in the lives of these girls were very encouraging. One of the girls even preached an entire sermon! This particular student was sponsored from the time she was young and attended the school in Kibaale before coming to the Timothy Center for her high school education. It is very neat to hear how these two projects in Uganda have made such a difference in the lives of these girls, providing them not only with an education but also Christian discipleship. 

On our way back from the market Sunday afternoon Alisha spotted Uganda's national bird, the crested crane, so we stopped to take some pictures:

Since Halloween is not celebrated here in Uganda, we decided to fudge the dates a little and do our activities on Sunday night. We picked up some green and white pumpkins (they don't have orange ones here) to carve and the kids had a blast scooping out all the insides and designing a face. Alisha and I picked up our own pumpkin as well and since she's the artistic one in our duo, I let her handle the carving. We also decided that in the spirit of Halloween, we would dress up with the kids. Sue and Carina arranged ahead of time for the high school girls to hand out candy from their dorm rooms. After everyone had dressed up and we had posed for all the photos, we headed up for some trick-or-treating. The kids didn't seem to mind that there wasn't an entire neighborhood to canvas and were very excited to get their candy. The Timothy girls also enjoyed handing out the candy and commenting on all the unique costumes.
